Father's Day...and Dogs!

Father's Day 2007 - what better things to talk about than guys and their dogs?  Oh, we also threw in a bunch of family talk.

Highway 6 - Your Road to the Country was on this morning here in Des Moines on 98.3 WOW-FM.  It is a rural lifestyle radio show that has a focus on small farms and acreages.  It's brought to you by Country Vet Pet Foods, FOTON Compact Tractors, Running Horse Elite Equine Feeds and Insight Advertising, Marketing & Communications.

Lyle Steinman was our guest this morning and we spent our time talking about his recent win of the Crown Championship of the Super Retriever Series.  (Did you catch it on the Versus Network?)  If not make sure you do.

Lyle his wife Debby and their three children and about 40 dogs live on 40 acres just east of St. Joseph, Mo.  Lyle is a professional breeder and trainer and the 2007 Crown Champion along with his best canine friend River. 

We talked about the importance of being connected with what you love to do and about how that can make all the difference in your life.  Lots of people have interviewed Lyle over the past two weeks and we were pleased he took some time to visit with our listeners.

We also talked about something called "Farm-Shoring".  Where industry looks to Rural America to build factories and plants rather than "off-shoring" them to other countries.  Think of the positive things this would do for the rural economy.

"New Ruralism".  Heard of it?  It has to do with sustainable farming and keeping land in some form of production.  Interesting stuff we've talked about before but didn't have a name for it...
