Michael Jackson...In Butter? Seriously?

Ahhmmm..  I leave Iowa for a couple of days and the place goes crazy!  The word is out that the Iowa State Fair will "honor" Michael Jackson this year by creating his likeness (which one we're not sure) in butter to proudly stand near or next to the Iowa State Fair Butter Cow. MJ

What are you people smoking over there?

Over the years the Iowa State Fair has had images of Iowa natives, John Wayne, Brandon Routh as Superman and last year Olympic Gold Medalist, Shawn JohnsonGarth Brooks has been in butter and so has the Last Supper

But...seriously Michael Jackson?

Our opinion is that riding the wave of popular is more important than tradition...in this case.  If the Iowa State Fair wished...they might have erected a memorial to Coach Thomas...first on our list.  But there are others with a keen tie to Iowa and agriculture.

How about the current United States Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack?  The first Iowan to hold that position in over 60 years.  Or perhaps Mary Louise Smith a pioneer in women's rights.  Norman Borlaug...anybody?

Looks like we'll miss that attraction in the Agricultural Building this year.

Oh, I can't help myself I want to chime in. Isn't one of the best PR tactics to create controversy? People are in a lather so "boom done" attention is hightened.

Not that people don't have a right to have their opinion, and even voice it if the issue matters to them. However, by doing so isn't the subject fueled?

Now I am personally more intrigued by the human condition and our NEED to idolize anyone, especially celebrities and athletes. What is with that? What does it say about us as a collective that we have this need to "identify" with people we really don't know based on their talents and our admiration of those talents? That seems an interesting topic to me.

Really, this MJ likeness in butter fat . . . will melt away when all is said and done while the icon of the man, for better and for worse will remain whether we care about it or not.

Georgie

You're so right Sherry! It IS creating it's own free publicity. I'm sure the butter exhibit will have more visitors than ever this year because of it.
I personally still have to protest it. I just hate having someone who is not exactly a role model I'd want for myself or especially my children glorified in this buttery fashion!

I vote yes for Coach Thomas. Had the pleasure of officiating several of A/P's games over the years and I can atest to the fact that everything you read is absolutely true.
The awful flip side of this whole thing - I know the shooter's Grandpa and uncles who live in Warren County. Tragic for them as well, as they are a solid family with values like Ed's.
Oh, and the other reason to vote for the coach over MJ - as my son says, "are we forgetting that this guy (MJ) molested children?"

Sherry thanks for coming by and for the comment. You hit on something why is it we fixate on the need to focus on the fame...of other people. It's like our lives matter little but how sadly untrue that is. Thanks again for reading and for the comment. Michael

Jeff: That's right you would have known Coach Thomas and the family of the shooters family as well! It is tragic. What is also a great error in common sense is that the Iowa State Fair will promote this Moonbat as a hero while others far more deserving are left behind. Amazing... Thanks for reading and for the comment! - Michael
