Highway 6 - Your Road to the Country is this nation's only live radio show that talks small farms, rural economic development, horses, gardens, organics...the rural lifestyle. Each week we gather together at 8am Central to talk about country living and offer up a slew of information that impacts rural and urban folks. You can hear us in Central Iowa on 98.3 WOW-FM (983wowfm) or by using your computer and following this link....you can listen from anywhere.
This week, along with the news stories we're following we've got Chuck Offenburger or "The Iowa Boy" on to talk about living in very rural Cooper, Iowa, the Raccoon Valley Trail System and what he's been up to since leaving The Des Moines Register. You can bet it's lots!
This is an on air reunion of sorts. Years ago, when I hosted a daily morning show, Chuck was a regular visitor who would come on and talk about Des Moines, RAGBRAI, Iowa happenings and just about any other topic that was current. It will be nice to have him back. Chuck Offenburger this week on Highway 6!
It's summer! Man is it summer here in Central Iowa. We've been through a week of high temps and high humidity that's good for the corn...but lousy for folks working outside. But, the "cool" thing about summer is that it brings back memories of that time of the year when kids return to the baseball fields, go fishing and run through the sprinkler. Here's to summer and the kids. Summer...is..."The Kid Season"! Be safe.
We're following up on a number of other rural impact stories like: (And, I have NO idea why these bullet points are messed up...)
- Will it soon become a faint memory?
- PETA & HSUS - The "Dark Side" from Baxter Black...
Small but Mighty - Small farms point the way to big dollars.
No Slots, No Horses? - Kentucky horse industry considers, "Now What?".
We figure that will keep us pretty busy...and it all starts at 8AM Central. During the show and when we're not on the air you can keep up with us on Twitter were @RuralLifeRadio. Let's visit?
