Back to Michael...  Michael Leo has been in this country for some time.  While he enjoys the freedoms in the "land of opportunity" he often thinks American folks are, odd.  Not in a bad way...but in a way that they just do not know how to enjoy themselves.

Michael spent four years post high school learning the wine industry and how to be a waiter.  You see, in Austria dining is an event...it's not just a way to fill the stomach.  Michael is a well known chef, wine expert and the guy behind the famous pastries at the Farmer's Market.  

We'll talk with Michael about hockey, football (both kinds), American food, American dining, favorite restaurants in the Capital City and more.  Don't expect him to be meek and mild mannered...Michael Leo always has an opinion.

If you were with us yesterday you heard me going off on "blah" products, services and customer services.  Last night I got to thinking about that and published a piece suggesting that if you have EXCEPTIONAL products and services and if they meet or exceed the customer (fan) expectations you will cut your advertising budget.  Why...because of the old Word of Mouth will take over.  Here is that post...and today on the air we're going to flesh that out a bit.

On the same track is this interesting post that, by the way, proves my point.  I do not know Amy Dix and this is the first time I have read her blog, Housewife Hacks (that I found on Twitter) but she proves my point in her slam of Dahls Foods in the Des Moines Area.  Was she listening?  The point is pretty clear and we'll talk more about it today.

We'll also have a story on Barnes & Noble and their missed opportunity with the new NOOK.  For early adopters...this is a big disapointment that had an easy fix.  They need to hire us....

In another story I read, Joe Duffy talks about GETTING out of the OFFICE to think.  Here is his piece and we couldn't agree more.  When was the last time you had a killer idea sitting behind a desk, on the computer or the phone?   DUH...  We'll talk about it.

Trade Shows, HR Failure & Advertising Failure - Oct 26

We're also going to talk about the failure of creativity...which leads to "advertising".  WHAT?  "I thought you were an advertising agency!  How can you say that advertising is a failure?"  We'll tell you based on an interesting thought starter we picked up this weekend.

And, while we're at it we thought we'd through in a little about Human Resources...how come most people give the entire hiring adventure failing marks?  Might it be that we're doing the same thing over and over...expecting different results?

A follow up from the show from yesterday.  As you know we steer clear of politics, there are already a bunch of folks out there on both the left and right with their "talking points".  However, during the show we made a comment that Governor Chet Culver had said he would take a 10% salary cut ($13,000) this year in a symbolic act of cutting costs.  Then his staff got into the picture and muddied the water by saying his salary would only be cut by 5.8% because it wasn't fair to cut salary retroactively...  We said yesterday that was an error and not what the governor meant.  Yesterday afternoon his office came out and corrected itself and said that it would be a 10% cut, just like the governor said.

Note to Phil Roeder, John Frew and others.  Shut up.   Let the Governor of the State of Iowa tell us.  For months you guys continue to bobble, shuck and jive and you  make "The Big Lug" seem like he doesn't have a clue.  Note to Governor Culver:  You might start saving money by asking those in your office who continue to screw up to leave.  We can understand what you say, when you say it.  Talk to us...and not through them.  K? 

Sorry...it just makes me crazy.
