Maybe it's the "old broadcaster" in me. Maybe I'm just silly...or nuts. This morning found Des Moines under 1/2" of ice and as I'm writing this it's raining and 30 degrees. But...I'm planning on going live today with Insight on Business at 12:30PM Central. In a way, it's like the old broadcasting days. If it snowed...you stayed at the station through the night so you could be there in the morning. If every school took off because of weather we would hug the side of the road making the trek the the TV or radio station... Here is the LINK to listen LIVE today at 12:30PM Central.
Like they say, "old habits". Silly? Maybe...
Enough "remembering" a program note: The show today was to have been hosted by Brooke Benschoter because I HAD a speaking engagement for the Urbandale Chamber...but that has been postponed until tomorrow...and Brooke has been kind enough to come in and do the show tomorrow and and interview our long scheduled guest Billie Sucher about re-branding yourself and finding a job. Confused yet?
At 5:30 this morning I saw the first news about a second earthquake in Haiti. No, it wasn't on the "news", not on a news website, not the radio, TV...etc. It was from...Twitter. We've lost count at the number of times Twitter has scooped the media. Yet, business continues to be baffled by social media. We'll talk about that a bit today. Here is the article that went to The Des Moines Register.
Maybe...just maybe my friend Peter Tarpey will join us in studio later today for a marketing and media discussion. Peter happens to be one of the brightest people I know and he is full of ideas for his clients. We've worked together on a number of projects and looking forward to doing more. PERHAPS PETER TARPEY today with Insight on Business.
My bride works near the local FEMA office. She wrote from her desk, "Roads at 7:45 fine but wet. Hardly anybody from FEMA is here today. Maybe now we understand why.." Ya think?
Hey, how about "5 Myths That Can Kill a Business Startup"? We think this piece from Michael Fisher and Marty Abbot is a must read. We'll talk about it.
So why do you think most, if not all, "Buy Local" campaigns fail? We told you about this months ago but it's worth re-visiting in this new piece by Diana Ransom. In a word... "buy local" lacks a story and a passion that honestly connects with consumers.
