Insight on Business with Michael Libbie is our Monday - Thursday look at the world of advertising, marketing and consumer trends. We're seen LIVE starting at Noon Central at Webcast One Live. When you come by to watch the show you can interact with us by using "The Chat" or connect on Twitter, I monitor @MichaelLibbie before during and after the show. Come by for some marketing nuggets for your business... Here is the show for today. There is no sound for the first :55 of the clip. Must be those pesky switches in the control room. I am sorry about that... All the links are below the video...
Up first we've got Sarah Barthole in studio to talk about what the Iowa American Marketing Association has going on with "Agency Crawl". (The "crawl" is today starting at 5:30PM and here is the link to register.) Sarah is the Vice President of Programing for the AMA-Iowa chapter and she's been busy finding ways to increase the visibility and value of AMA-Iowa. We'll ask Sarah "why" and "what" an "Agency Crawl "is, what she sees as the value of association membership and, because she is involved with the Iowa State Daily student newspaper, what direction, she feels, newspapers are headed. We think we know...but it will be interesting to learn what they are saying at the higher levels of learning. Crawl around with Sarah Barthole today at Noon Central.

I don't get to be here tomorrow so I get to wish my friend Timothy L. Johnson a very happy birthday. Tim is writer, lecturer and great guy to know if you want to take a peek at how to get things done! Here is his website. He'll no doubt be at Central Iowa Bloggers tomorrow morning at Panera Bread on University in West Des Moines (Beverly Hills of the Midwest) unless he's been up all night...with the kids. ;-)
So, you want to start a business...what type of business has the best odds of still being around in five years? Good stuff to know and Scott Shane of Small Business Trends has taken the time to look at the data and offer some thoughts on "Start-up Odds of Success". We'll talk about it and how you might use this data to help you in your next business decision.
Staying in the world of successful business ventures - If you are Amish you've got a leg up on creating a successful business. Data shows that 90% of Amish start-up business ventures are...successful. Why? And, what can you learn from the Amish Business Model? Good stuff from Eric Wesner written by Jeff Cornwall. Here is the list of three things the Amish know...but you may not:
Best Banks for Small Business - You've heard of JD Powers right? They recently conducted a survey and reported on, what they believe, are the best banks for small businesses. The list is long and you might be surprised at who they picked. Here is the link to the article by Michael Periu.
Creepy? - Here is a creative piece from Leo Burnett out of Chicago featuring Dolf Lundgren and the Norton Unicorn. It's not the Worst Ad of the Week...but creepy?
Moving on...
Dressing for Business - You may scoff at this but it's a problem I see every day I walk through the financial district of Des Moines to our Webcast One Studio. For some reason "Casual Friday" has become "Casual Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday". What is the deal? One upon a time the only folks wearing "flip-flops" were the Viet Cong and surfers. Today? Many, many years ago I purchased a book, "Dress for Success" by John T. Malloy and it's still a great read...35 years later. But, if you're looking for something more current here is a piece by Steve Tobak, "Do Clothes Make the Manager". Seven tips for you...Enjoy and put some shoes on!
Time for "The Worst Ad of the Week" - Here is just another example why business owners should NEVER do their own ads...
What's with her little dance? Yikes!
