Insight on Business with Michael Libbie is our Monday - Thursday look at the world of advertising, marketing and consumer trends. We'll be on Webcast One LIVE today at Noon Central. And, because the show is interactive you can comment, ask or answer questions by using The Chat...or take the conversation to Twitter. I monitor @MichaelLibbie before, during and after the show. Ready...let's go:
For those of you who believe social media is a waste of time...congratulations. There is now data to support your theory! The survey was conducted this year by Intellimon in partnership with the University of Bradford and it will tell you that, of the 4,000 online business, 67% use social media to promote their offerings. However only 29% of them found Facebook to be effective in driving people to their websites. Performing WORSE was Twitter rated at only 27.2% effective. So...why are we...champions of using social media as a tool sharing this with you? Learn more in our discussion of what they didn't factor in the results of the study. We'll do this...first up at Noon.
Three interesting notes on "Statehouse Politics" here in Iowa - Congratulations to Linda Upmeyer the first woman to be elected Majority Leader in the Iowa House. I know Linda and knew her father, Del Stromer (also in the House for 20+ years) well. The apple does not fall far from the tree. Well done Linda. Meanwhile Kraig Paulsen, the House Majority Leader says Iowa needs to cut "hundreds of millions of dollars" from the state budget, which was balanced in 2010. The problem is...nobody is saying from...where. That could have a major impact on jobs and business. Meanwhile, Governor-Elect Terry Branstad says he's "going to have to study" the re-building of passenger trains in Iowa. Sort of sounds like he's not too keen on the idea. That...is too bad and will also have a business impact. Wait and see...
If you didn't catch the interview yesterday with Dr. Rizwan Z Shah and Juan Cardenillas about the National Children's Study you might want to check it out...or at least check out the site to see if your community/area was selected to take part.
If you missed it...you missed an interesting interview with President George W.Bush and Matt Lauer. Just saying...no politics here...just saying it was a nice piece of work. In other broadcast news, Keith Olbermann returns tonight to MSNBC. He had been suspended, without pay, by Phil Griffin (possible relation to Peter?) for doing exactly what others at NBC, CNBC and MSNBC had been doing. Giving legal campaign contributions. Don't get me started.
It is a message "not approved" for American Jewish World Service and it's already had over 330,000 views. WHY is this a story? Because all the serious AJWS videos are lucky to produce a couple of hundered views. So...our message is: We'll tell you.
Last week we shared several tips for retail and what retail owners should be doing NOW if they want to make more money during the holiday season. TODAY I have some amazing numbers and insights for retail owners, manufacturers and distributors of retail products. If you KNOW anybody in retail have them watch today. If you are serious about getting your products in front of the people who have the money to shop and if you are serious about building a more vibrant business I beg you to catch the show today. Great stuff from my friends at Nielsen Research.
