Insight on Business with Michael Libbie is..."on the road" in Orlando today so it's re-run city! Check in with Webcast One Live for continuing shows from the past full of ideas and stories to help your business roll through the first quarter of 2011. And, because this is a "conversation" too...feel free to join me on Twitter, I monitor @MichaelLibbie before, during and after the show... Even from Orlando.
I'm here to do a couple of presentations for the National Tractor Parts Dealer Association. Our work in agriculture and love to everything rural allows me to walk with folks who serve North American farmers and ranchers. They may not know much about Social Media and Branding...yet. And, as usual...I'm the one who learns the most. Grateful for the trip and the opportunity!
Busy airports and full flights- I had two legs to the journey: Des Moines to Memphis and Memphis to Orlando...each aircraft was...full. I flew Delta and it was non-remarkable. That's not a bad thing...they did their job and I got here. It's just that nothing stood out. Thought I'd take a peek at how Delta is performing...Here is some financial information. Seems "doing your job" is paying off. Nice.
Twitter Story from Orlando - My friend Mike Winter @mtwinter runs a global company called Worthington Ag Parts and over the past 18 months has gotten active in Social Media. When he checked into the Double Tree Resort the reservation was not correct. (He brought his two teenage daughters and wanted adjoining rooms...smart Dad!) He had been promised that would happen...but on check in he found his "adjoining rooms" were several FLOORS apart. He went to Twitter: "First hitch of the trip: Double Tree Resort of Orlando screwed up my reservations. This is not good!" Within minutes the Double Tree District Manager (who had set up watch words for his properties) contacted Mike directly and injected himself into the issue. Problem...solved.
I know...Twitter is a waste of time.
Gone...mobile yet? One of the trends we talked about last year is starting to hit many of the people we talk with: Creating a mobile version of your website. It's becoming more critical as folks turn to their Smart Phone to connect with your product/service. What is it? It's a scaled down version of your existing site without all the stuff (usually images) that take time to load and clutter up a 2.4 inch screen. Word: DO IT!
On the flight here I read over half of "Delivering Happiness" by Tony Hsieh one of the brains benind Zappos. One of the great things about flying is it gives me that time to dive into a book. If you've not read it...do it. Loads of insights into customer service. And, enjoy the casual style Tony delivers. Glad he did not employ a ghost writer.
Want to sell more of what is new? Encourage consumers to buy it. Here is a great short story about a recent study coming out of Iowa State University about the five different consumers and how to reach them. It's from our friends at BusinessWeek.
Gotta go kids...it's an hour later here.
