Courtney Tompkins - A Natural Change
Late last month Courtney put away her white lab coat and joined our client NatraTurf as the public relations and social media director. (We'll share the "white coat" story.) Now, why would a successful company that's been in business for over 25 years hire a person to focus on their message using new media and a combination of in person visits? We'll tell you and we'll also share with you the value, as we see it, of companies following this plan. While we're partial to the idea...we think it works for any size business. Courtney Tompkins going natural with her insight on business today. This will be fun! (Photo - Courtney, Tank and SpotGone!)
Got History? Share It
Last evening I visited with Bob Miller the Chairman of the Board for Polk County Bank. The bank has been "in the family" for generations and Bob shared many of the stories with those of us attending an Urbandale Chamber networking function. Our conversation stired up some thoughts. When I speak to banks and insurance people about marketing they always bring up...COMPLIANCE. "We can't say anything without running it past the "Compliance Department". Bull! Those pin-heads in the "compliance department" don't know squat. While I shared none of this with Bob...what he was telling me about his bank started me...thinking. I'll share.
Social Media Has LOST It's Shine
I'm loving every word of this new survey review from Dave Rosenberg. In it he says that marketers are becoming "more practical" with regard to their social media expectations. Today I'll break down the reasons and tell you why this is zero surprise to us and it's exactly what we've told you for...years! WHOOT!
140 Character Conference - Des Moines
For those of you wanting to figure out the "inside track" of Twitter and Social Media here is your invite, and three reasons, why your business should spend a day learning...with some neat folks. Looking at the list of speakers...over half have been in these chairs over the past two years. So...we'll all be among friends. Your business should be part of this event on May 9th at the Civic Center - Stoner Theater - Des Moines.
Proof That You Can't CUT To Gain Prosperity
Lee Enterprises, an Iowa based newspaper company, posted a net loss to investors of $1.5 million. In this Des Moines Register story, Lee executives tells us that advertising revenue in all areas was down. Lee had cut their employment base by 3.8 percent but that wasn't enough to make up for increased costs in ink and other hard goods. The stock price of the company fell to $1.29 per share. The message - In the new economy business as usual...isn't going to last and doing more with less...can backfire. We think blaming a "late Easter" is...silly.
