How Much For A Logo?
I was asked that question last week. I didn't have an answer. Why? Because each company, business and industry is unique and so is their brand and culture. Here's the issue: To build a solid logo, something that lives for years, isn't like buying something off the rack. We've got to know more about the company, what their culture is like, who their current and potential customers might be. What "silo" are they in. What is their competition. It takes more than a single phone call or meeting to learn as much as we can about our client. Then we go to work sketching, creating, offering drafts and re-drafts. It's impossible, unless we skip several steps, to quote a price. You feel different? Love to know.
Our ad agency tends to work with entrepreneurs, partly because we understand their pain. Most get so focused on the product or service they do a lousy job in marketing. They think everybody should buy their product/service because, after all, it's the best! Turns out entrepreneurs are equally over optimistic about financial projections often understating expenses and overstating income. Those are part of the findings of a recent survey outlined here by Kimberly Weisul of bNet. Good stuff and a solid reminder.
Why You Need More Than Facebook
I get to travel around speaking about social media and more often than not I run into somebody who thinks Facebook is the answer to their marketing dilemma. It's not. It is ONE of the many tools for your marketing toolbox but not the only. Why?
- Facebook is Social and often Silly - There is a lack of "meat";
- If your business doesn't have a well known identity Facebook can flop;
- So you've posted a witty bit...what's next? Where does the Fan/Friend to to learn more?
- Is your website current? How is that Business Blog coming?
- How is your traditional marketing/advertising working?
You see it all takes...work. W-O-R-K and visiting Facebook five or six times a day to be clever means you're joining millions of others who are being clever...it doesn't always lead to sales. Careful...
Getting noticed is a huge deal in the world of digital enterprise. Clicks mean dollars. But, far too often even our clients ignore our advice to update their website often, use video, create a business blog... Just yesterday I tooled by a client website to see they had information on their calendar page that was two months old! Ugh... Want more?
