Insight on Business (IoB) News Hour with Michael Libbie is a look at our world of advertising, marketing and consumer trends. Monday - Friday we'll offer up our thoughts on a number of stories and share with you how you might incorporate the ideas into your marketing plan. (You do have one...right?) IoB is made possible through the support of NatraTurf and Bindery One. Got ten minutes? Let's go:
Last month Phillip, who has reported on food and food policy for over a decade, was laid off by the Des Moines Register in yet another cost cutting move. We're pleased to let you know that he is still "on the job" with a new business & news blog. Food Watch - "The politics of the food we eat, how it's produced and why it matters." Good stuff for those of you who follow these things. Welcome back Phillip!
Several months ago our friend Kent Carlsonbegan a Facebook Page called, "Lost Des Moines". It's an open group where people post photos and recollections about the city and what may no longer be here. And it has grows by maybe 40 - 50 people a day. For those of you who like to "wax sentimental", without the politics...it's a fun group. And...for those of you not interested in Des Moines...I'll bet your community would get into something like this as well. What a great way for an insurance company, bank or non-profit group to boost their marketing footprint. Got...Time?
It's all the rage. Have you made the switch? Are you an early adopter? What's going on and why it might be of interest to you and your business? Love it...Hate it? What does it have? What does it miss? What is the future and why... Here is a great overview from our friends at Business Insider and Tristan Louis. And then there is this from MSNBC about privacy and Google+. Written byKurt Bakke of the Motley Fool it will no doubt bring more questions than answers but remember...this is evolving. Daily.
We received a call today from a client who wants to do a "press event" about a great idea. He's got a hook, an angle and...nearly...everything. What he needs is to make it simple and get "simple" into the hands of those who make programming decisions for radio, television and print. That's often the hardest part of any press event. Distilling down the idea so that it is clearly understood by those who make the schedule of what to cover and...why. We're helping put some additional blocks into place and we'll let you know how it turns out.
How Do You Get...This SM Love?
Last week Bill Kurtz, an old friend from NW Iowa, made contact on Facebook telling me he would be in town and wanted to know if I had time to meet him. He's not at all familiar with Des Moines so getting him to a place...that I knew was good...was the first challenge. I suggested, because he was downtown, that we might meet up at Gusto Pizza Co.on Ingersoll. Why? Well, the food is good and the folks at Gusto Pizza Co. have cultivated a relationship with me and many of my friends. They've done so by using social media...first. Being fun and querky and not...selling. That is how you get stuff like this done. A shameless promotion of a neat place...that I'm pleased to do...just because. So, are you using social media this well or still trying to "sell your stuff"? BTW: As you can see, Bill is no longer a "Gusto Virgin".
That's It & Thank You!
