Branding Basics
This week in West Des Moines shoppers were buzzing over the long anticipated opening of Whole Foods. Folks camped out waiting for the doors to open. It's another indication of how interested the consumer is regarding sustainable/organic foods. Clearly Whole Foods has a huge brand following. Meanwhile, in the same city Tallgrass Grocery, a locally owned store based in the Historic Valley Junction, said they are asking their 840 members to contribute $150,000 in the form of loans and/or grants to keep the business open. That's a tall order and shows how difficult it is to build a sustainable brand without resorting to a high profile marketing program. We've not been to Tallgrass Grocery...yet. But it's high on the list.

Got an app for that?

For anybody who is really engaged in brand building using social media you know how devastating that can be. We share this reality with our clients and, frankly, anybody who will listen because it is so critical. But...why just listen to us? Here's a piece by our friend Mike Sansone about What Is Your Social Media Saying About You. It's a good read with several strong recommendations from a guy who...knows.
Is Small Better For Profits?
If you have the ability to be convenient you can...charge more. That's the secret as to why we see convenience stores on nearly every corner of the Metro. This past week ACE Hardware announced a partnership program that will bring smaller stores to a neighborhood near you. Ace Express is a way to bring goods to neighborhoods without building additional brick and mortar stores. It's an interesting idea. Here's the story in the post, Going Small...
