Insight on Business, The News Hour with Michael Libbie has a focus on
advertising, marketing, consumer trends and business. We're LIVE each Monday morning at 8:45 and can be seen at Webcast One Live or later right here. Our goal is to help your business, large or small, better understand the world of advertising, marketing and what consumers...think. If you want to join the discussion you can ask questions or comment on Twitter @InsightADV and our advertising agency Facebook Page is right here. This week here is our show with the links to the stories below. Our thanks to FUIRSA where you can get your taxes done quickly and...correct. FUIRSA - "Working hard for you until the cows come home." (You'll have to fast forward to about 1:40 to catch the start....sorry, we're working on that.)
Solid Images and Great Copy
Point of Purchase displays cause consumers to...stop and consider the merits of your product. More than just a sign, point of purchase items need to convey, in a very brief time period, something fun, unique and special about your brand. Today we'll take a look at several examples of what we think works and why. Hint, it's not only the copy but also the image.
Diversity is Critical
Let's say you want to appeal to a wider group of people. Folks who have never or may never set foot in your space. What do you...do? Change everything. For the past several years the Des Moines Botanical Center has held "Botanical Blues" a Sunday afternoon mix of music, food, drink and warm weather inside the dome. Yesterday we visited with some of the staff...we'll share some insights during the show.
When It Goes Wrong
Last week Oscar Pistorus was arrested for the alleged shooting and murder of his girlfriend, model Reena Steenkamp. In addition, Nike pulled this ad. Two issues, celebrity endorsers are real people with real lives and problems and when major companies tie their name to them...sometimes it backfires. And, second...you would think, with the growing amount of concern over gun violence the copy, while captivating, might have been something else.
Consumers and Farms
What do you know about the food you eat? Probably, not much. In general Americans are two or three generations removed from farm life and when you consider that farming is the job of only 1.5% of us...the misinformation about farming, food and consumers can get mixed up. "No More Food Fights - Growing a Productive Farm & Food Conversation" is a brand new book by farm/food advocate Michele Payn-Knoper. We'll spend thirty-minutes with her as she shares some interesting reasons as to why you need more information about what you eat and why farmers need to spend some time talking about what they do. Michele Payne-Knoper with us today.
Good Radio - Spectrum Lighting
Each of us hear radio ads...all the time. Few stand out. This one is different. For a couple of weeks prior to Valentine's Day Spectrum Lighting ran this ad on stations of the Des Moines Radio Group. We liked so much we made contact with the station and Spectrum Lighting to get permission to rebroadcast and have you here it...here:
