We're a bit late in getting this out "on the bird" because we spent the greater part of the day in Humeston, Iowa a community of roughly 460 people.  We took the show on the road for another "Out to Lunch" segment and had a great time listening to stories from our guests Jill, Don and Dan (photo). We learned much about the history of the community as well as their business climate and a community owned grocery store The Front Street Market, the Grassroots Cafe and Snyder's a store like no other I've ever been in and today was their 75th Anniversary!  We can't wait to share that segment with you later next week. Meet Actor Andy Buckley from The Office

We were at the Central Iowa Business Conference put on by the Urbandale (Iowa) Chamber of Commerce doing interviews with a host of individuals including the morning keynote speaker Andy Buckley. If that name sounds familiar it should. Andy was one of the actors on The Office that ran for several years. Since then Andy has added to his IMDb body of work and is now with Arnold Schwarzenegger in a Netflix production of FUBAR, and yes, another comedy. We talked about how The Office was really his "side gig", his famous Bride, Nancy Banks who is an acting coach and more. I came away from this thinking he's really a nice guy and so easy to talk with. Meet Andy Buckley:

The Business News Headlines and Meet Andy Buckley - The Office

It is good to be back with you.  It's been quite the week here.  Early on Tuesday morning our studio and offices were flooded with close to an inch of water during a storm that dumped two-inches in under twenty minutes. That was followed by a storm that knocked out power for 23 hours. Combining the water damage clean up and clearing trees it was a full 23 hours...we were not bored. But, we're back and grateful! Mr. Smith (Harry) in Washington

One of the highlights of the recent Greater Des Moines Partnership DMDC2024 trip to Washington, D.C. was the opportunity to listen to the very funny and talented broadcaster Harry K. Smith who recently retired from a long stint at NBC. He took us through several real stories about his work over the many years and it was both fun and sometime serious. I stuck around after the luncheon and was able to grab a bit of audio with Harry and ask him what he has planned, now that he's got more time on his hands.  Have a listen and thanks Harry for the many years of helping make us...smarter.

If you are old enough you might remember the 1974 program by the Ford Administration known as WIN or Whip Inflation Now.  The government was faced with inflation that hit 12.3% and the program encouraged people to check their spending habits and build their personal savings. President Ford even wanted people to wear a WIN button in an outward sign of solidarity.  But, it was a FLOP...big time.  Today the top story is also about inflation and we'll cover that first. Reflections on DMDC2024

We spent a fast paced 55 hours on the ground in Washington, D.C. for the 45th Annual Des Moines to D.C. (DMDC) trip by the Greater Des Moines Partnership. This is where elected officials, community groups and business leaders used the time to not only network among themselves but also lobby our federal legislators about some key projects from airports to a new interstate to fixing roads and bridges. The reaction from those involved? Here you will learn more from Tiffany Tauscheck, President/CEO of the Greater Des Moines Partnership, Mark Snell, Chair of the Warren County Board of Supervisors, Joseph Jones, Chief of Staff for Des Moines University and Ro Crosbie, President/CEO of Tero International.
