Sorry, we couldn't help that hat-tip to Rose Royce and their iconic song released way back in 1976.  Here you are about to meet Trenton Dierkes the Marketing Manager for Silverstar Car Washes based in Sioux City, Iowa and rapidly gaining traction in many parts of the Midwest. Silverstar will soon have three locations in the Greater Des Moines Metro and we caught up with Trenton during a ribbon cutting in Windsor Heights.  Yes, we know, it's a hyper-local news story but hey...we can bring you the national news and, every once in a while, something like this.  Enjoy!

We're back after being on assignment for the past several days. We were covering the National Tractor Parts Dealer Association annual Summer Board Meeting which took us on quite a journey.  About 35 people from around the country were in Des Moines, Iowa for the event and they got to visit an amazing car company that is all about speed and noise. It's Off The Line Performance we also toured the World Food Prize Headquarters as well as the Iowa State Capital, a 100 acre salvage yard in Colfax, Iowa and see an Iowa Cubs baseball game. The final report is they had a great time and we'll be bringing you several conversations yet this week. Business Headlines and the Workers Memorial 29 April 2024

Welcome to the Monday Edition of the Business News Headlines.  Glad you are with us. Over the  past week labor unions across Iowa have been holding Worker Memorials to remember the men and women who were killed on or at the job site this past year. Today the South Central Iowa Federation of Labor AFL/CIO held such a memorial at the Iowa State Capital. I have been to many of these events over the years but never one where so many names were read. Today seventy-three individuals who are now gone but not forgotten were remembered. I was struck by that huge number and at the ages of some of the deceased. Following the event I sat down with Paula Martinez the President of the local union and asked..."Why?".  It was an emotional event for many of us...  Here are the other stories we have for you today:

The Iowa JCI Senate with Wayde Burkhart

No matter where you are on the planet you have heard about the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce which had its early beginnings way back in 1915 when Henry Giessenbier Jr. along with 31 other young men formed Young Men’s Progressive Association (YMPCA) at the Mission Inn located in their hometown of St. Louis. Then, a year later, he YMPCA became known as the Junior Citizens and soon the Junior Chamber of Commerce, after affiliating with the St. Louis Chamber of Commerce. The organization has a long and storied history of helping young men and young women become true leaders in their community, state and nation.  Here I sit down with JCI Senator  #63877 Wayde Burkhart and chat it up about the real estate market as well as an upcoming Region VI meeting which involves six states coming to Des Moines on April 19 - 21. This was so much fun remembering and I'll let you join us for a bit.

Ringing the Peace Bell with Yoko Tanaka

This was an amazing experience and I promise that you'll learn so much from this interview. Several days before New Years Eve 2023 we saw a presser about the Japan America Society of Iowa and a gathering at the Yamanashi Peace Bell which is located near the Iowa Supreme Court Building, next to the Shattered Glass Sculpture. This bell was a gift of gratitude from the Yamanashi Prefecture to honor all of Iowa for assisting that state to get back on its feet following a devastating 1959 typhoon that impacted its hog industry.  My guest is Yoko Tanaka the Executive Director of the Japan America Society of Iowa who explains what we were doing early in the morning of the last day of 2023...and in freezing weather.

4th Annual Sista Soul Fest with Loretta Windsor

Over the years we've had the opportunity to visit with so many entrepreneurs and at each meeting we've found their stories to be compelling.  That too was the case when I sat down with Loretta Windsor the founder of Sista Soul Fest now in its fourth year. This is so much more than a festival. There is a  powerful economic driver behind her vision for build economic wealth for women and especially women of color.
