Time to go Out to Lunch with the Business News Hour. Each week I take a thought leader "Out to Lunch" and talk business. The only wrinkle is that YOU get to listen in on our conversation.

This week I'm "Out to Lunch" with Dave Price the Political Director/Anchor and Managing Editor of WHO-TV 13 at the Range Grill + Golf. But, before we settle in to order and talk business we get to ask Dave three questions...we call this Quick Bites and Dave surprised us with his answers.

Our Out to Lunch segment spans many, many things from his new book Caucus Chaos - Trump to a conversation on how people are digesting their news, how local news is selected, how changes in technology impact news departments and we'll talk about some interesting conversations he's had over his 18 years in Central Iowa. The Business News Headlines 21 March 2019

It's Thursday and we've got the business news headlines for you. What happened and why that is so important. Here we go!

• Some systems are suggestion...(gulp) recession;
• The tax cut that is hurting the GOP;
• Jean maker Levi came back to Wall Street and...did they;
• Some Iowa TV stations are on the sale block;
• No Dave & Busters but something close coming to the Merle Hay Mall;
• What happened and why on Wall Street.

Also today I go "Out to Lunch" with the Mayor of Des Moines, Frank Cownie. But before we order we sit down for "Quick Bites" - Three questions we ask every OTL guest. Think: Book? Movie? Job? 

Then it's Out to Lunch at Jesses Embers as Mayor Cownie talks about the changing demographics of Des Moines, transportation, new  projects, quality of life, unemployment, and more. After 16 years as mayor it would seem he's still got a passion to do more. Frank Cownie as we go Out to Lunch and talk public policy.

Jeff will be in Ankeny, Iowa on Thursday the 24th and in this conversation we look at the business mind of the late Duane Ellett the creator of Floppy. You really should go...

Every day we hear about the lack of talent to fill thousands of jobs across the country. Here we sit down with Kate Brick and Richard Andre from the non-partisan New American Economy and talk about the issue and a report just released that points to the need of a new pool of workers in not only the Des Moines Metro but across Iowa. Case in point, Iowa is currently home to more than 160,000 immigrants—a population larger than the city of Cedar Rapids. Between 2010 and 2016, Iowa’s foreign-born population grew by more than 15.2 percent an important statistic given the low birth rate in the state.  In addition we talk about the economic impact that can be attained...or missed.

Each week Laura Kinnard from Drake University and DMBizMixer comes by to give us some insight as to business networking and education opportunities. We kick it off talking about the young people from Africa who are at Drake seeking assistance in their businesses and then a bit about the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives and then dive into a couple of events and places to go to network.  Click through!
