Trailhead International with Daniel Pettit

Daniel Pettit who, along with his wife, created a non-profit called Trailhead International  which is in the business of building churches that become community centers in emerging nations. We sat down with Daniel for that reason and several more...that you’ll hear about in this segment...stay with us...some folks doing some good around the globe. Volunteers - Critical to the Service of 370,000 AARP-Iowa Members

We sit down with Brad Anderson the State Director for AARP-Iowa and talk about several items and then get into how the organization uses volunteers to serve the 370,000 Iowans who are members. During that time we were surprised at how many people in cities and villages across the United States are working on issues like wage growth, affordable housing, skills training, employment opportunities and issues of equality. When we saw that Gerry Feeney was with the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce we didn't know what to expect. Were we going to talk about Hollywood or bold new social and economic programs? It turned out it was the latter. Gerry has quite a story about how the Chamber and the County are working at finding work for hundreds which, in turn, gets them out of a life of crime and into the workforce. It turns out that this approach is not only cheaper than jail but also provides each person with hope. At the end of our conversation you'll learn what his motivation has been. We often record our broadcast interviews from Grounds for Celebration in Windsor Heights. We love the atmosphere of a live setting. This week when we were in for a segment waitress Judy Babb asked me about being on the broadcast and asked what it was we covered. When I said it was about business she said, "Darn, we were hoping you might say something about our charity work". We were interested.
