Hope to Build a New Sikh Temple in Urbandale, Iowa

Today you'll hear from Baljit Singh Virdi one of the organizers of an effort to build a new Sikh Temple (Gurudwara) in Urbandale, Iowa. This is not a hyper-local story but an effort to help you better understand their faith, which we found to be so very interesting. While they have an aging facility in West Des Moines the goal here is to meet their expanding membership and have a building that can also serve as a community center for everyone and not just members of the Sikh faith. Reflections on DMDC2024

We spent a fast paced 55 hours on the ground in Washington, D.C. for the 45th Annual Des Moines to D.C. (DMDC) trip by the Greater Des Moines Partnership. This is where elected officials, community groups and business leaders used the time to not only network among themselves but also lobby our federal legislators about some key projects from airports to a new interstate to fixing roads and bridges. The reaction from those involved? Entrepreneur Steve Wilke-Shapiro on Beautiful/Functional Design

Why not start a business during the height of the pandemic? Which is what happened when entrepreneur and architect Steve Wilke- Shapiro created Sequel Architecture and Interiors. His work not only focuses on preservation but also mixing the new with, sometimes, the very old. The result is a stunning project that ranges from the small to the very large. Recently Steve has added an interior designer to his firm having realizing some might want those "extra touches". Talking Beef with Janine Moore

While we were on assignment at the National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) annual convention in Orlando we met with Janine Moore from the Iowa Beef Industry Council. Janine and her husband ranch in What Cheer, Iowa and our conversation was not only about the Iowa beef industry but the national and international impact beef has.  She has spent years working on behalf of the beef industry and her knowledge is remarkable. From Ranch to Restaurant to Farm to Table it's an interesting conversation. Enjoy...we did!
