It's been a "recovery weekend" after getting back to the Greater Des Moines Metro following 55 hours on the ground in Washington, D.C. with over 200 leaders from Central Iowa. It was another remarkable trip and if you click ahead you'll be able to hear the reactions of a handful of people who took the time to offer their thoughts about DMDC-2024. Voices from the Flight to D.C. with the Des Moines Partnership

We made history on Wednesday as more than 200 business leaders, elected officials and non-profit individuals traveled to Washington, D.C. for the 45th Annual Greater Des Moines Partnership D.C. Trip. Here you'll meet several of my fellow travelers as we chatted it up abord a Southwest Airlines Charter Flight. We had one question for our guests, "What do you expect to accomplish while here." Local Option Sales & Service Tax - Polk County, Iowa

Several communities in Polk County, Iowa are set to vote in March on what is being called the Local Option Sales and Service Tax which would add a penny to the sales tax there. We sat down with Brad Anderson the State Director for AARP-Iowa to talk about the impact of the tax on people living there. Some of the things he says may surprise you. While the issue doesn't come up for a vote until March of 2019. AARP-Iowa said they want to get way out in front of the process.

It was quite a day on Wall Street and we'll have all the numbers. Also on tap today a Small Business Spotlight with Cary Peterson and our continuing look at Iowa Legislative races this time House District 39 with Karin Derry. In the news:

• Malls say "No!" to "Going Out of Business" signs for Sears;
• Harley Davidson U.S. sales tank...but gain in Europe;
• More bad housing news;
• Yahoo to pay $50 million for that massive data breach;
• Easter Lake to get "connected" to the DSMUSA Trail System;
• The Markets?  Yikes, don't ask!

Our Small Business Spotlight features Peterson Painting a family owned company that started decades ago and has always made a deal with their customers, "We'll do what we say and what you expect". We like that. Meet Cary Peterson of Peterson Painting in our Small Business Spotlight.
