Reflections on DMDC2024

We spent a fast paced 55 hours on the ground in Washington, D.C. for the 45th Annual Des Moines to D.C. (DMDC) trip by the Greater Des Moines Partnership. This is where elected officials, community groups and business leaders used the time to not only network among themselves but also lobby our federal legislators about some key projects from airports to a new interstate to fixing roads and bridges. The reaction from those involved? New Life for Earlham, Iowa

Just outside of the Des Moines Metro fringe is the tiny town of Earlham, Iowa. Over the years there has been and expansion of housing and many don't mind the 20+ mile commute into Des Moines. Quietly the community has been planning a resurgence and in the middle of it all is the Krause Family better known as the Kum & Go Folks. We stumbled onto this story through our friend Chef David Baruthio (Baru 66 & Saison Kitchen & Pub) who will be opening up a new coffee cafe and a full service restaurant in an old building that has been brought back to life with a $2.5 million renovation.
