The Business News Headlines 30 May 2024

We're a bit late in getting this out "on the bird" because we spent the greater part of the day in Humeston, Iowa a community of roughly 460 people.  We took the show on the road for another "Out to Lunch" segment and had a great time listening to stories from our guests Jill, Don and Dan (photo). We learned much about the history of the community as well as their business climate and a community owned grocery store The Front Street Market, the Grassroots Cafe and Snyder's a store like no other I've ever been in and today was their 75th Anniversary!  We can't wait to share that segment with you later next week. The Business of Politics with Pete D'Alessandro

Each week I get to take a thought leader "Out to Lunch" and have a conversation about a business topic. This week it was the business of politics with long-time political organizer Pete D'Alessandro who cut his political chops in Chicago and then came to Iowa. We start out our conversation with "Quick Bites" - three questions I ask each of our lunch guests. It about books, movies and jobs. Meet Pete and his "Quick Bites" answers:

Then it's on to lunch, this week at Trostel's Dish in Clive, Iowa. You'll hear Pete talk about Chicago politics, who he's worked for, some thoughts about the recent mayoral election there and why he made the decision to move to Iowa. We'll also talk about his run for Congress in Iowa's Third Congressional District and the current presidential campaign of Sen. Bernie Sanders. We'll wind up talking about "Democratic Socialism" which seems to scare the hell out of people until they come to understand what it means and how Americans have already benefited.
