Out to Lunch with Michael Libbie

We're kicking off something new for the Business News Hour...hey, it's Spring!

Over the past couple of years we've taken the "Show on the Road" and recorded an interview segment outside of the studio. It's great to go where the events are happening. Last year, on a visit to Washington D.C., we stumbled across a CBS News podcast with Major Garrett called "Take Out". it's a political podcast that takes place at a D.C. restaurant close to the CBS studios. We thought that was a great way to do an interview, get out into the community and build awareness.

So, we stole it...

This month we're launching "Out to Lunch with Michael Libbie" where we sit down to lunch with a high profile business person, writer, startup, media professional maybe even a politician and talk business over lunch. We're kicking it off at Table 128 a great locally owned restaurant created by Lynn and Sarah Pritchard and based in Clive. If you're headed there for lunch during the week and you see cameras, lights and mics...that's what is going on.

They say you must keep creating...so we're out of the studio and into the community. We'll tape the segment during the week and then share it on Friday.

Insight on Business - Radio Broadcast Launch

For the past several years I've hosted a web based news show with a  focus on advertising, marketing and business.  The platform has been over at Webcast One LIVE and it's been a fantastic experience yet limiting because it is web-based.

Early this year our firm, Insight Advertising, Marketing & Communications, was hired by the City of Urbandale to write and produce interesting content revolving around the slogan, "Uniquely Urbandale".  During the past several months we crafted news stories about diversity, taxes, infrastructure and international trade.  The result, no media outlet, outside of the Des Moines Register took a sniff.  So much for broadcasting...

That led us to the conclusion that the business community and economic development doesn't rate high on the list of priorities for local news outlets. Save for the occasional Iowa Economic Development Authority story the news about the business of business...small, medium and large doesn't exist especially among broadcasters.

We're changing that...

Insight on Businss the News Hour will debut on August 26 as a news and information program on 1350 KRNT and air Monday - Friday between 5PM and 6PM offering listeners a full hour of business and economic news spanning the Des Moines Metro and surrounding area.  Interviews, stocks of local interest, news stories...all on the air and on the Net.

We could have sat around and grumbled that there is a lack of interest in our economic drivers.  However, seeing that there is a lack of service compelled us to find a way to deliver the news that grows the metro.  Joined by our producer Peter Tarpey and technical director Jimmy Olsen I'm confident we're in for a great time.

New TV Show - Bike People

This weekend Iowa Public Television aired the first peek at Bike People a new show about the world of bicycling, Iowa and the people who are involved in the sport.  My friend Forrest Ridgway, owner of Bike World, thought this would be a neat way to share with others what goes on in bicycling.  He and Suzet along with friend Brian Duffy were part of the premiere.  We'll show a clip and share some thoughts.

The Business of Politics

Running for public office may not seem tough or like a business...but it is. Today, in studio, we'll visit with Desmund Adams who ran for the Iowa State Senate in District 22 and Susan Judkins who ran for the Iowa House in District 43.  Our goal is not to discuss politics but the "business of politics".  What goes on behind the scenes when a person commits themselves to a life in the spotlight.  We'll talk about the decisions, the time and the issues that face any person who seeks to serve the public in an elected office.

What A Difference A Year Makes

For nearly three solid years several of us poured our energy into an online Radio/Television station known as Webcast One Live.  It was an amazing adventure that was full of promise.  I still think it is a vision of the future.  Much of this quick video was shot a year ago when the station was moving, we thought, into a much more broad world of shows.  It was fun to find the video and, now, share it with you.
