We were watching QVC and Mom was talking about they way we "sell things these days". It's all changed a bit from her days roaming around Maxwell Street in Chicago. As a child I remember some of these stories about how she and my grandparents would get on the train and travel to Chicago and shop. It must have been like the Mall of America...without a roof.
Mom remembers lots of things from shopping for clothing to the "Fish Mongers" who had ice, tanks and newspaper. Here is a sample:
It's a wonderful thing to learn what it must have been line from a person who was there. And, in a way....our Farmers Market program in Des Moines and other cities is...sort of like Maxwell Street. Mom really wants to go to the Farmers Market in Des Moines this summer. Looking forward to memories.
And, so it goes...
