I appreciate your efforts. It would be very difficult and depressing to, in writing, encompass all that is ripping our country apart right now. We are seeing the dark side of capitalism, an inherent component of democracy. If it becomes selfishness the economic mobility of our nation is stymied. Steinbeck was not the most popular author, but his depression era account of these very issues are chronicled well in his novel The Grapes of Wrath. It is timeless; and as I taught it to my seniors in high school, it made for productive discussions.
I believe education is most important at this time and always.
We must invest more in schools, particularly for those most at risk. We need early childhood education and daycares so that our children have a healthy and secure environment.
I was impressed with your column; I hope it is read by many. Continue your efforts, and I will continue to read. Thank you. MJ
