It's just before 9AM on Sunday Morning. Usually I try to get this out by now but didn't get up until 7AM (Damn you Netflix!) and chores take about an hour. Then it was a load of wash, dishes and a small "fix-it" project. So, here we are friends...late. Sorry.
I want to talk to the Americans who feel some sense of loyalty to a man who can't string together a coherent sentence. To the folks who idolize a guy who, the moment he announced his candidacy, began by attacking women, immigrants and our common belief system. To the people who think its just fine to seperate families, lock people in cages, brag about grabbing women by the pussy and saying Nazis are some "very fine people".
I'm not sure what motivates you to adore a man who said he was going to "drain the swamp" and then fills his circle with crooks, liers and donors that have no idea how to effectively govern.
Why would you continue to follow a man who has so botched the American response to COVID19 by saying it would disappear and that it was a hoax and now we have nearly 150,000 people...dead.
And, why adore a person who has ridiculed people with disabilities, bowed down to dictators and ruined our standing in the world community?
Why would you deliver a vote to a person who does not believe a single word of your precious Bible? It's amazing to me, a Jew, that some Christians fall all over themselves to proclaim their love for Jesus while at the same time espousing hate for anybody not just like them. This religion thing is really odd. Many Christians point to the Torah and say that the Jewish faith is too strict and not a faith based on love but on fear when in fact they know nothing about the richness of devotion and love that is expressed in those commandments. Worse yet you have no concept of your own faith and the teachings that come from Christianity. It is mind bending and can not be explained.
And those of you who refuse to acknowledge that Black Lives Matter is truly stunning. You come back with "All Lives Matter!" but that really isn't the case...is it? Because to you the lives that matter must be just like...your life. The lives that are white and live isolated from others. The lives who believe like you do. Not the lives of gay people. Not the lives of Muslims or Buddhists or Hindus or Sikhs. No, those lives are different and they do not matter to you.
To those of you who still, for some very ignorant reason, think the Civil War was some sort of rebellion over a noble way of life full of happy Negros willing to do the kind bidding of their masters is...insanity. For some reason you see nothing wrong with the "Stars and Bars" or having United States Military bases carry the names of rebel generals who, in the name of everything evil, sent hundreds of thousands of young men and women to their death all in a failed attempt to preserve the economics of slavery. Oh, and your president is now willing to veto a military aid bill because both the House and Senate have provisions to remove those rebel names from our bases. Want to explain that?
And it is amazing to me that you think it's just fine to, in the midst of the worse health care crisis in one hundred years, to kick people off the Affordable Care Act just because the ACA has the name of Obama attached to it. This president is, today, in court attempting to further cripple our health care system because he is small, and petty and devoid of human emotion. Really? He cares not one wit about you or your family.
And, finally, you continue to support a man who is willing to treat your kids like lab rats demanding that our public schools open even as COVID19 is gaining and snuffing out the lives of not only the elderly (because they are expendable) but children as well.
I give up on you but I don't yet give up on this nation. We are so much better than your leader. We have 100 days before the election in November. And for our nation to survive I will do everything I can to see this man defeated...no, crushed.
Between now and then the racist language will become more shrill and actions that once could not be even considered American will mount. But I still have faith that those of us who see this nation as one which embraces the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breath free will overcome the ugliness in you and your leader. I say this because we are truly the best and last safe harbor on the planet.
This matters. We we need to do all that we can, every day that we can to save the soul of our nation.
Join me...join us.
